Our toilets do a superb job of minimizing the waste that is collected, but they don't convert it into rainbows or generate drinking water. They are simple, robust, and made of recycled materials where possible. Solid waste needs to be collected, stored, decomposed, and eventually removed because our National Parks, Forests, and beautiful wilderness areas are not mini landfills for waste (which is how pit toilets work).

Decompose Vault (DCV)

The Decompose Vault is used with the Decompose Toilet. It is an open bottom vault made of prefab FRP pieces and saves big bucks in remote locations where concrete ingredients, mixing and pouring is challenging and laborious. With annual watering of the waste pile, the waste is consumed by native soil invertebrates and bacteria that enter through the bottom of the vault to consume the waste pile. From a regulatory perspective, this open bottom soil contact surface performs similarly to a conventional septic field where infiltrators or pipe places waste in contact with active and aerobic soil for treatment. An important distinction and advantage of this system is that its waterless, and there is virtually no effluent leaving the vault, where conventional septic systems discharge hundreds of liters of waste water per day to the soil.

Decompose Vault

Waste Away Vault / Enclosure

The Waste Away vault is an above ground prefab aluminum vault with doors designed specifically for the Wishbone toilet building. A concrete retaining wall with an upper toilet slab and lower waste floor slab are poured prior to building assembly. The easily accessible and fully enclosed storage space contains the bags / bins under the BTW conveyor drop point for hassle-free collection and removal for offsite disposal.
